5 Films to Watch on Netflix this Weekend

I am a self confessed movie buff and love discovering new things to watch. I love Netflix and feel it is a great and cheap way of watching films, not only your favourites but also slightly quirkier things you wouldn’t think of watching normally. So I have put together 5 of my favourite films on Netflix at the moment that I would recommend to watch this weekend.

Documentary – Mortified NationFullSizeRender 8.jpg

THIS IS GENIUS! It is utterly hilarious but also very moving. It is basically people reading out extracts from their childhood diaries and as you can imagine the results are both funny and touching. Great easy-to-watch film and a genuine gem in the Netflix library!

Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow…need I say more? This suspense thriller with a twist is a classic! Matt Damon is unbelievable as usual, he plays a sociopath who will stop at nothing to keep hold of his new found lifestyle.

British – The Duchess

Keira Knightley plays an unhappily married young duchess longing to find happiness in her new life. She is married off to a loathsome Duke, played by Ralph Fiennes, and begins an affair with a politician, played by Dominic Cooper. This film really touched me, Keira is a great actress and really captures the young innocence of her character while evolving into a strong woman towards the end. Both tragic and uplifting this film is an accurate portrayal of the era due to the great performances by all leading actors. This film also won an Oscar for Best Costume Design so expect some serious hair and costumes! I must warn you that it will bring some tears and that it didn’t end how I expected it to, but a great ending nonetheless. Bonus is that it is based on a true story!

Fun Film – Grease Live

I really wasn’t expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. I thought it couldn’t be as good as the original and couldn’t really see the point. But I really loved this reimagining of a much loved classic. The sets are amazing and the transitioning between them is slick considering it was filmed live. Slightly different to the original although doesn’t dishonour it in any way. Stand out performer was Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo, brilliant singer and she brought the sass back! Very easy film to watch in your PJs on a lazy Sunday and you can’t help but sing along! Also keep and eye out for some familiar faces from the original film.

Wild Card – Looper

Didn’t know what to expect from this film but once I saw the cast I had to watch it. Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Dano star in this story about a time travelling hit man who is sent to the future to kill criminals who are no longer needed, but when he finds his future hit is him, he struggles against his older self about what to do. A slightly weird concept and I wasn’t sure it would really work, but if you don’t think too much about the practicality and reality of the time travel bit then it is a genuinely good action film. The ending is also brilliant! Really would recommend as a alternative to watching anything generic on Netflix this weekend! Thats why it is my wild card this week!
